3 Launcher mode

WireLess Deployer Client can be executed in two different ways: Background mode or Launcher mode. The execution mode must be determined on the client configuration ("Application" section, "laucherMode" option). See Configuring and installing the WireLess Deployer Client.

On Background mode the application runs on the background and the user has no restrictions to access the Operating System. The user can access the Launcher from the desktop shortcut or through Start/Programs menu.

On the contrary, on Launcher mode, the screen of the PDA looks like this:

Main screen

Application screen

Launcher mode has the following features:

- limited user actions (prevents any access to the Operating System)
- manual update of the mobile unit (while on Background mode the update must be performed from the console)
- password protection for exit
- status bar with the status of some keys (shift, ctrl, etc.), the bluetooth, the Wi Fi network, etc.

The combo box placed on the right corner of the applications screen contains different views to visualize the applications installed on the PDA:

4 Launching applications (on Laucher mode)

If you want to launch an application press [APPLICATIONS] button on the main window of the WireLess Deployer Client. Then, choose the application you want to launch from the list of available applications and press [LAUNCH] button:

After you press [LAUNCH] button the following window is displayed and the application is finally launched:

5 Remote Control by GPRS

WireLess Deployer Client allows to request for Remote Control by GPRS. In case of any problem, the user can use this feature to send a Remote Control session request to the Administration Console.

In order to start a Remote Control request from the WireLess Deployer Client, the user must press on [RC] button, which is located on "Admin" tab. The following dialog will appear:

If the user presses [NO], no request will be started and the application will return to "Admin" tab. If the user presses [YES], the application will open a screen where it is possible to write a request note, which will be sent to the Console Administrator:

When the WireLess Deployer Console receives the Remote Control request, a button with a life belt will appear on the top of "Units" window:

Click on the life belt button and a special group of units, "GROUP HELP", will be opened. This group is automatically created and it contains every unit that has requested for Remote Control:

The Administrator should click on the name of the unit and then on [Remote Control] button. In that moment, the request note written by the WireLess Deployer Client user will pop up:

Once identified the problem, the Administrator can access the PDA using the regular Remote Control, which is opened after validating the user's message. See Control a Mobile Unit by Remote Control.

As soon as the Remote Control is started on the WireLess Deployer Console, a pop up window will appear on the screen of the Client, informing that the Administrator is in control of the mobile unit:

This message can be configured using the Client configuration file option RCPopUp. See also Configuring and installing the WireLess Deployer Client.

When closing the Remote Control window, WireLess Deployer asks the Administrator to confirm end of Remote Control help. If the Administrator selects [YES], the unit will be deleted from "GROUP HELP".

The Client should end the GPRS connection by pressing on [HANG UP] button.
The message "RC" appears on "Client" frame of "Admin" tab while the unit is under Remote Control. When there's no Remote Control, it says "running".
